We're seeking folks who want to realize their full potential through an empowering new career in the health and fitness industry - and get paid while doing it!
This 8-week development program is designed to help those with little or no experience in the field gain the knowledge, tools and skills to inspire others (and themselves) toward complete lasting, empowered change with a career in personal training.
This program is our way of investing into folks who want to create a new or better life for themselves. Acceptance provides a part-time paid position, duties which involve developing your skills as a coach and trainer, completing your NASM-CPT credential, then joining our team as a full-fledged team member. The only financial investment on your part is the discounted cost of the credentialing exam, paid directly to NASM (financial assistance is available.)
You can click here to download the full job description, which is also available on the application page. Program outline is included below.
Whether you're seeking a full-time career move, want to operate your own studio, or looking for a way to engage yourself in fulfilling work for a few hours a week on the side, our mission is to provide you the platform to create the life that is meaningful to you.
Note: This program is designed for aspiring personal trainers who are not certified. If you are certified and interested in applying for employment with us, please click here.
At 5:17 Total Body Transformations, our mission is to empower women and non-binary folks to realize their full potential.
To empower someone means to make them stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights. We believe that when folks possess this strength and confidence in a safe and comfortable community of others pursuing the best version of themselves, then entire communities, and the world, will be transformed.
We’re looking for individuals to lead our clients on their wellness journey, individuals who share our vision to transform the culture of health and wellness, seeing food, fitness, and self-care as tools to strengthen our abilities and value, rather than fixing something that’s broken.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value the diversity of our clients and staff. We’re looking for candidates who embody characteristics and traits that foster an inclusive, encouraging training environment for our clients and staff. We believe the only failure is not trying. If you truly care about the health and well-being of others, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet all of the requirements.
We welcome both seasoned health and fitness professionals as well as those considering a future in the industry. We’re more concerned with who you are than what you know. Credentials like certificates and degrees can be earned, but we believe character and personality are what set us apart as a staff.
If you’re others-focused and proactive with a growth mindset, someone who’s first reaction to a problem is, “how can I fix it?” then we’d love to meet you.
If you care deeply about the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being of others, recognizing that total body wellness requires a holistic approach grounded in self-care and love, then we’d love to chat!
If you’ve got it all together, have everything all figured out and are ready to show everyone how they can do it better, we’ll tell you now it’s not going to work out between us.
Here are some of the qualities that describe our team, based on our company core values:
Gracious: We give ourselves and those with whom we interact the freedom to pursue big dreams because we have unmerited, unlimited favor in the glory that is our maker.
Courageous: We do the things that frighten us.
Perseverant: We pursue the best results by steadfastly chasing our dreams despite difficulty or delays.
Authentic: We seek to be transparent in the representation of ourselves, our achievements, our struggles and our shortcomings.
Humble: We will not think less of ourselves, but strive to think of ourselves less, acknowledging that it is only in lifting others up (with proper boundaries) that we can lift ourselves.
Compassionate: We care deeply about the sufferings and misfortunes of others and devote ourselves to promoting the welfare of those in need.
Are you interested in joining our team? Fair Warning: Our hiring process is not quick or easy!
We are going to ask you to complete a few steps to prove you have the character we’re looking for, as well as demonstrate that your values align with our mission and vision. However, know we are committed to making this process as accessible and equitable as possible and will tailor each of these steps to meet the needs of the individual candidate.
You will have at least 2-3 interviews to give both you and our team the opportunity to ensure there will be a good fit. We do not want just anyone! We want a team member willing to grow with us for years to come. Full program details are below.
Although we hope this position brings with it the fulling nature of doing something you love, the reality is that work must provide compensation - yes, we expect you to come to work for the paycheck and have your financial needs met.

Application
Complete an application online using the button below. We'll ask you to submit a short letter or video sharing why this position is meaningful to you and why you think you'd be a good fit. We'll also ask for three non-familial references and for you to certify that you meet the requirements of the program (or, disclose what aspects you don't meet so we can be sure to include them in your program.)
We are committed to making this process as equitable as possible. Please give us the opportunity to modify or amend the process to meet any accommodations you might need. This will in no way diminish your opportunity to work with us. If any step of this process presents an obstacle, please contact us here with subject line "Application Accommodation Request" or call/text us at (408) 641-8427. Currently, we are unable to offer employment sponsorship for folks who do not have permanent work status.
Interviews
We want to ensure we all have a chance to get to know each other, so you'll have a total of four meetings with us to complete the interview process. All of our interviews are informal (no dress-up required) and will be scheduled at each successive step. COVID modification: Currently, all interviews are occurring online via Zoom.
Initial Phone Chat: This is a brief 15-minute call to provide a company/program overview, understand what you're looking for in an employment situation, and give us each a chance to get to know each other and see if it would be a good fit to move forward.
Interviews #1 & 2: You'll meet with our founder/CEO (interview #1) and our general manager (interview #2) to share more about yourself, your aspirations, and discuss various aspects of the role. The goal is to give you the opportunity to share how you would handle certain situations and shed light on your qualities and character.
Interview #3 - Role Play: This final interview will simulate an initial training session with a client. You'll take a staff member though a workout that is observed by a company manager/executive, having first been provided with details to create a successful experience. The goal of this time is to establish skills and qualifications directly related to the personal trainer position. Its not designed to weed out those without certain skills, but to give us a chance to see what areas need development so we can tailor your program and time with us accordingly.
Program Structure
The program commitment with us is approximately 10 hours per week of paid work, with built-in study time. Additional study time may be required on your own. For participants needing additional hours to meet personal needs, arrangements may be available to provide additional working hours separate from the development program.
You'll have a set schedule with us for the 8 weeks of your program to ensure predictability for your life. Currently, these are occurring via Zoom but will resume in-person with precautions and safety measures when cohort unanimously agrees.
The first day, you'll have several forms to complete (taxes, payroll, eligibility to work, etc.) and an initial three(ish)-hour orientation, during which we'll cover specifics of how we operate as well as expectations and company procedures. Then, weekly, you'll have a structured small group meeting with your cohort and supervisor to cover materials related to developing your knowledge, tools and skills. You'll also schedule shadows that will allow you to see our other trainers in action and learn from them in real time.
Compensation Structure
Program hours are paid at $20 per hour. Upon completion of CPT credentials and in-house competencies (outlined below), participants will be promoted to Level I Trainer which includes a pay range of up to $25 per hour. Training level advancements do not occur on a set calendar, but are contingent upon trainer meeting metrics such as hours of experience, increasing certifications/qualifications, displaying additional competencies, etc. Meaning, you can advance at a pace that you set. We aim to be transparent in our compensation structure and provide this with orientation materials, as well as upon request.
Program Completion
Program completion confers upon you full personal trainer team member status! It is contingent upon passing the NASM-CPT exam and earning the designation of Certified Personal Trainer, which is required by California law (and our personal convictions), in addition to some in-house credentials.
Our in-house targets include: completion of all shadows, three practical assessments, core competencies established (you will be given these during your orientation so there will be no surprises), and three mandatory trainings. These trainings include California mandated sexual harassment training (60 minutes), Anti-Racism for Wellness Professionals (90 minutes) and Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity for Wellness Professionals (90 minutes). All of your time with us to meet outlined requirements are paid.
Know that we are committed to being patient with you as you work through this process! We have a 100% passing rate with employees we have taken through this process, and we are confident that if you make it this far that you will, too. Your employment with us will not be terminated due to difficulties with this process.
